The Gnome Party

To celebrate the student's success I put together a surprise for the kids...a Gnome Party!

Here is our little village of gnomes made by a very talented 12 year old!

Students walked into class and saw the display...they were excited!

A close up

Our cupcake maker took the time to make a few of the gnome hats look like our sole surviving gnome's broken head.

Showing off our gnomes

Biting the heat off of our gnomes!

We watched Gnomeo and Juliet while eating the cupcakes.

I am proud of the accomplishments that the class has made throughout the year with oral language. Speaking in front of your peers is tough, whether stating an opinion in Community Circle, answering a question during a lesson, contributing to group work, or getting up in front of the class and presenting information. Each student made progress (big or small) since September in this part of the Language program - great job!!!!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A special thanks to Justin who went out of his way to say thanks, not only for his cupcake, but for the party. That thank you made my day and made all the effort worth while.

Junk Food Advertising

Today we continued out Media unit on advertising to children with a specific focus on junk food. We explored these links and had an interesting disucssion about whether or not there should be an increase on taxes for junk food. What do you think?

This is an article about characters using in advertising:

This is a report from the Ontario government on the health of children. It's an incredible article.

An eye opening video on the health of children and marketing to children in the US

Gnome Arrested!

On Thursday March 29th, Gnomerilla was spotted escaping from Room 10 at Cherrywood Acres. After smuggling herself into Miss Hall's homework bag, Gnomerilla hitched herself a free ride across town to Miss Hall's house. Upon being discovered in the bag by Miss Hall's 3-year old son Brennan, Gnomerilla ran for her life which was incredible since her feet are glued together. It has been previously reported by the 4/5 Star that she has been through the torturous replaying of One Direction songs and has survived several slobber attacks by dogs and cats. "I can take a lot. I'm a gnome after all, but a toddler...that's out of even my league," stated Gnomerilla in this exclusive interview with the 4/5 Star. "He didn't even know what I was!"

Through the 4/5 Star's careful and stealth-like investigation, we were able to get some pictures of the events that happened before Gnomerilla's arrest.

On Friday, Gnomerilla went to Cousin Andrea's house to decorate eggs with shaving cream.

This photo was used by the Niagara Regional Police for identification purposes, specifically to determine her height.

Gnomerilla did not like the texture so Brennan did all of the work.

On Saturday Gnomerilla was spotted having lunch at the newly renovated Regency. When asked for her opinion on the food she said, "These are the best fries anyone has ever given me!"

After lunch Gnomerilla joined Brennan on an Easter Egg hunt with his friends from school. She almost got arrested for stealing someone else's eggs but Miss Hall was able to talk the officer out of the charges in exchange for 3 months of community service.

"It wasn't me!" ~ Gnomerilla

A member of the community (Kylee) ran into Gnomerilla shopping with Brennan's baby around 5pm at Zehrs. This was confirmed by Ethan's grandparents.

Sunday: at it again...trying to steal eggs. This time she was caught on film. Police were called immediately on the grounds of breaching probation conditions.

Awaiting police arrival...

Brennan dressed to make his statement in court after his Easter dinner.
The 4/5 Star will be following Gnomerilla's court case and reporting throughout the week as developments occur.
